Five more watchdogs for Insurance Ombudsman

The Insurance Ombudsman Bureau has appointed five ombudsmen to support

principal ombudsman Tony Boorman.

The appointments precede the transition of the IOB and the other five

ombudsmen schemes to the single Financial Ombudsman Service. This is due to

happen during the latter part of 2000 following the implementation of the

Financial Services and Markets Bill.

The associate ombudsman is Peter Hart. He is a barrister who was appointed

deputy insurance ombudsman in 1995 having served as local government

ombudsman.

The other ombudsmen are Reidy Flynn, Steve Lilley, Michael Lovegrove and

Dorothy Rickman. They have all been appointed from within the IOB.

Boorman took up his position as principal ombudsman on March 1, 2000. He

says: “Our workload of increasingly complex cases is continuing to grow and

we will benefit from the combined expertise of this team of ombudsmen.”

IOB chairman Maurice Healy says: “I am delighted that we have been able to

strengthen the ombudsman team by the appointment of these highly

experienced and capable members of staff.”
