First State appoints Gary Withers as regional managing director for EMEA

First State Investments has announced the appointment of Gary Withers as regional managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Withers joins First State Investments from Credit Suisse where he held the position of head of global investors, running the global investors business through to its sale to Aberdeen Asset Management. He was previously head of asset management, EMEA.

Colonial First State Global Asset Management CEO Mark Lazberger says: “To appoint a candidate of such high calibre and standing in the global investment community illustrates the attractiveness of the First State Investments business and its achievements in a highly competitive marketplace.

“As Regional Managing Director EMEA, Gary will have responsibility for the leadership and business strategy across the EMEA region with particular emphasis on business development and product strategy initiatives.

Withers says: “I am delighted to be joining the team at First State Investments. It is a high quality business and an excellent platform for future growth and development.”

Time saver offers us consistency

We spent a lot of time building and putting into place an investment process but we then had to start making compromises when dealing with different product providers with regard to the funds available. It has taken us over two years to decide which wrap to use and most of this time was spent trying to find the ideal wrap for all client and circumstances.

Case study: administration — implementing a management log

Our client is a leading video game and publishing company best known for its console role-playing game franchises. The client provides a number of benefits, at varying levels and cost that attract a P11d liability. With the absence of a management log to track data for benefit movements, enormous administrative and therefore cost implications were occurring each year just to comply with P11d reporting requirements.
