Firms warm to stakeholder

New research from banking clearing house Bacs reveals that there has been as significant rise in the number of firms planning to introduce stakeholder pensions.

The research, conducted among 350 businesses representing a range of sizes, found that almost a quarter or 23 per cent will definitely offer a stakeholder scheme compared with only 9 per cent of organisations interviewed last year.

The study found that awareness of stakeholder stands at 76 per cent compared with 56 per cent last year.

Bacs says it has been working with the Department of Work and Pensions to ensure that businesses can make stakeholder contributions for staff as efficiently as possible.

Bacs spokesman Peter Blake says: “The number of organisations saying they offer pensions to employees now stands at 48 per cent.”

A study by PIFC Benefit Consultants says over 95 per cent of stakeholder or stakeholder-exempt pension schemes set up recently have involved some form of employer contribution.

Scottish Legal Life in Friends Prov marketing deal

Friendly society Scottish Legal Life has signed a deal with Friends Provident to market the life office&#39s stakeholder pension. It plans to offer Friends Prov&#39s &#39New Generation&#39 stakeholder pension scheme to existing members and use the strength of Friends&#39 name to attract new business. It says it will target businesses with five to 50 employees.
