Finan to lead Consifa drive to buy IFAs

Consolidating IFA group Consifa is set to relaunch to the IFA market with ex-Winterthur Life chairman John Finan as chief executive.

Finan is to start an aggressive acquisition programme.

The business was launched in November 2001 but buying plans stalled last year with director Colin Studd blaming tough market conditions. Consifa directors say the market has improved and the firm is looking to create a national IFA targeting high-net-worth individuals and the SME sector.

Finan was chief executive and chairman of Winterthur Life UK and was CEO and deputy chairman at NEL Britannia, part of the Invesco Group.

Consifa is looking at bringing in and training new advisers as well as recruiting more experienced IFAs.

It says it is confident of raising capital based on equity and debt financing and is talking to product providers and venture capital groups.

Finan says: “I think the market has improved significantly in the last six months for IFAs and there are plenty of good IFA businesses available for acquisition.”
