Fidelity appoints Schroders’ Higginbotham

Fidelity has appointed Schroders global head of product Robert Higginbotham as its European Mutual Funds President.

Higginbotham has previously held a number of senior marketing and sales positions at Schroders and Prudential and will start at Fidelity on April 2 2007.

Higginbotham will report to Fidelity International vice chairman Barry Bateman and will join the global operating committee as part of his role.

Bateman says: “Robert is highly qualified for this role due to his extensive experience of the mutual funds and insurance businesses in UK as well as Europe, built up over many years. He has the skills and strategic vision to enable us to react quickly to the changing environment for mutual funds in Europe.

“This will position us well for the next phase of growth in our UK and Continental European retail businesses. I am confident that Robert will make a significant contribution throughout the whole of FIL.”

UK pension system ranked sixth in EU

Aon Consulting has ranked the UK pension system as the sixth-best in the European Union for the second year running because of the strength of the private pension system and higher average retirement age. Denmark was top followed by Estonia and Ireland.
