F&C to join climate change parade

F&C is following in the footsteps of Schroders and Jupiter with the launch of its own climate change vehicle.

The F&C global climate opportunities fund will look at companies who are innovating in their attempts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, whether it be through technology, products or services.

The fund will look to tap into nine investment themes, all of which are split under the three guidelines of mitigation, adaptation and finally supporting services.

Mitigation includes areas like alternative energy and waste, while adaptation looks at those focusing on acclimatising to the new environment. Supporting services centres around the likes of carbon trading and consultancy.

Sophie Horsfall and Terry Coles will co-manage the portfolio with the assistance of the firm’s Governance and Sustainable Investment (GSI) team.

Horsfall says: “Climate change is going to have a revolutionary impact on the global economy and our new fund will offer investors significant growth potential by picking companies who harnass the opportunities from this change.”

The fund will initially be offered as a Luxembourg Sicav for institutional investors, with the group is seeking regulatory approval for the retail offering.
