F&C appoints Akrigg as Pacific equities director

Ben Akrigg will join F&C Asset Management’s Asian equities team as director, Pacific equities.

He will report to F&C head of Pacific equities Mike Hanbury-Williams.

Akrigg joins from Morley Fund Management where he has worked as a portfolio manager in the Asia Pacific equities team both in Singapore and the UK.

Akrigg began his investment career in 1996 with Norwich Union Investment Management responsible for India, Korea, the Philippines, and Pakistan

He moved into Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and Hong Kong/China following the intergration of NU with Morley Fund Management in 2000.

F&C chief investment officer Tony Broccardo says: “F&C are one of the largest managers of Asian equities in London and this latest hiring, which comes just months after the appointment of Adrian Hickey to manage Japanese assets, demonstrates our commitment to further growing this area of our business.”

Macpherson in Treasury move

Nicholas Macpherson has been appointed Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, succeeding Sir Gus ODonnell. He was previously managing director of the budget and public finance directorate and prior to this head of the public services directorate. He has worked in the civil service for 20 years.
