Family planning to place AGM news on the net

Family Assurance is claiming to be the first friendly society to post news from its agm on the internet.

The Brighton-based society expects to attract 300 members to its agm but is looking to cast its net wider by putting the information on the web.

The rest of its 600,000 members unable to attend in person will be able to log on to the site to read highlights from the agm only hours after the event.

Video cameras will capture live footage from the meeting on May 25 and highlights on the net are likely to include the chairman&#39s address, votes on key resolutions and members questions and answers.

Marketing director Barry Chambers says the society has researched the viability of the service and members have given positive feedback. He adds: “There is nothing contentious on the agm agenda this year but having the interactive system of the net can be particularly useful for members&#39 questions.

“Questions from agm members can keep the management on their toes and stop them being too arrogant and the web can extend this communication. Even if just a couple of members use the net service I will be delighted.”
