Families receive £2.5bn in working tax credits

Chancellor Gordon Brown is promising £2.5bn extra support for families in the form of working tax credits.

Couple with no children in full time work will be guaranteed £183 a week and a single person taking home £154 family could receive £50 per week for child care. The child’s main carer will get between £800 and £1,400 per year.

Introduction of working tax credit for low earners over 25 years old. Singles earning less than £200 a week and couples taking home less than £280 a week will stand to gain.
