The Government has appoin-ted two industry experts to spearhead its drive to cut red tape for good occupational schemes and minimise levelling down when the NPSS is implemented.
Amicus joint deputy gen-eral secretary Ed Sweeney and former Unilever head of UK pensions Chris Lewin will work with an external advisory group to identify potential areas for change and to develop proposals for the deregulatory review.
The advisory group inc-ludes representatives of business, the pension industry and unions.
Minister for pension reform James Purnell says: “It is crucial that this review seeks a consensus on the regula-tory balance required between member protection and encouraging employer provision of pensions.”
Aegon Scottish Equitable head of pensions development Rachel Vahey says: “I do not think this will stop levelling down – it is too little too late after 10 years of costly regulatory reform.”
