Exchange upgrading as advisers fail to connect

The Exchange is piloting a permanent wireless internet connection after IFAs using the technology found they could not access its service.

Anyone connecting to the internet through a permanent wireless connection, which uses digital technology rather than telephone lines, cannot currently access The Exch-ange&#39s IFA portal.

The wireless connection is being provided by UK telecommunications company tele2. The Exchange is working with tele2 to find a solution and is about to start a trial with a number of IFAs.

Customer services director Stuart McPhee says: “The Exchange software service only runs in a securely protected extranet environment because of the sensitive data it contains. But we predict more customers will want permanent open access to the internet and we are actively looking at finding other ways to securely connect to our service.”

PG Finch & Co partner Paul Finch, who is part of the pilot, says: “IFAs should beware before investing in technology to make sure the advances they are trying to make are compatible with service providers.”
