Ex-Staffs director faces Probe

Former Staffordshire Buil-ding Society customer services director Andrew Thompson is under investigation by West Mid-lands police.

The Staffordshire has confirmed allegations of a “minor nature” involving financial issues made earlier this year but it says these did not relate to members&#39 money.

Following the allegations, Thompson quit the society on February 28 but the Staffordshire is refusing to provide any further information on the allegations while the police carry out their investigation.

Thompson was at the Staffordshire for nine years after joining from Leam-ington Spa Building Society in 1993.

His position has not been filled and the board is considering whether to make an appointment while it shares out Thompson&#39s responsibilities.

Head of marketing Rich-ard Dickson says: “Police are looking into allegations of a minor nature which do not affect members&#39 funds.

“We cannot give any more comment until the police investigations are complete.”

The Staffordshire is the second society this year to lose a board director over financial allegations.

Scarborough Building Society finance director Gerald Waterworth quit in February after North Yorkshire Police launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of an admin account.
