Ex-Schroder Tokyo star Clough returns to fund management

Former Schroder Tokyo star manager Denis Clough has joined Morant Wright.

This week’s Money Marketing reveals that Clough (pictured) will be part of a team of six at the asset manager which was formed by Stephen Morant and Ian Wright in 1999 and specialises in quoted Japanese equities.

Clough managed Schroders Tokyo fund from 1985 to 2004.It became AAA-rated and in the 10 years to March 2004 returned 9.8 per cent in the IMA Japan sector compared with an average fall of 21.2 per cent.

He stepped down from the Tokyo fund in March 2004 and was replaced by Andrew Rose, before taking on the Schroder European fund. He left the firm in 2007 to take a break from fund management.

Morant Wright has £1.86bn of assets under management. Clough will work across all four of its funds as the firm operates a team process with all the managers working on all the funds.

Morant Wright compliance officer Alasdair McKerrell says: “Denis is a hugely experienced fund manager and has a trem-
endous reputation in the industry and we are delighted to add him to our team.”

Hargreaves Lansdown investment manager Ben Yearsley says: “His appointment is a huge coup for the firm.”
