Ex-Burns Anderson chief appointed head of sales at new Novia platform

Novia has hired former Burns Anderson chief executive Mike Hughes as head of sales and marketing at the firm’s new international platform.

Novia Global is due to launch in Q2 of this year and will target the expat market.

Hughes is currently non-executive director at Origen Financial Services and was a non-executive director at Positive Solutions before it was sold to Intrinsic in 2013.

He was in charge of Burns Anderson between 2004 and 2008 prior to joining PosSol in 2011.

The Honister Capital group, which included Burns Anderson, Sage Financial Services and Honister Partners, was forced into administration in 2012 after failing to secure professional indemnity insurance.

Hughes says: “Novia Global is in a fantastic position to bring much needed transparency to the traditionally opaque structure prevalent in much of the offshore investment business markets.

”The offshore market is ripe for a modern technology platform, similar to those that were introduced and started to transform the UK market more than a decade ago and that are now dominating the investment space.”

  1. Burns Anderson ? Whatever happened to them ? During my time as an ” inspector ” with an Edinburgh insurance company – before becoming a broker consultant – with 3 and a half days of training in six years . . .Burns Anderson were one of the ” chosen ones “, to ” back ” support . . . filled with Equitable Life salespeople . . .who really understood commissions and bonuses. . . due to their inherent reliance on them . . they ( Burns Anderson ) were given great enhancements to the commission – on “offer” – by the Chairman and Board of Directors to ” buy their business “. I still have the records of business produced . . . so with enhanced commissions . . .and sales figures . . . whatever happened to them ?
