Equitable appoints actuary

Equitable Life is appointing Hymans Robertson senior partner Michael Arnold as actuary to oversee the compromise deal with garanteed annuity policyholders being drawn up to cap the troubled life office&#39s liabilities.

Arnold was the actuary who last year approved the Axa orphan asset deal, that saw policyholders receive just £575m from £1.45bn of assets. He was also involved in the recent flotation of Friends Provident.
