Downing Corporate Finance has brought in the i-Net, a venture capital trust (VCT) that is aimed at experienced investors looking to take advantage of the capital gains tax shelter present in the product.
i-Net invests in technology stocks, as well as companies that use the internet, e-commerce and other information technology and telecommunications mediums.
The company believes that now is a good time to invest in the technology area because the initial hype about the new economy has died down and a more realistic approach to the value of internet based companies is now apparent.
VCTs are a specialist sector of the market and many IFAs may be unwilling to get involved without specialist advice from a stockbroker. And the technology market has had a roller coaster ride over the past few months, with the Nasdaq 100 index in particular taking a battering.
However, with prices lower now than they were at the start of the year, this is a good time to introduce a product that deals in the technology area, although it is still a volatile region and it will have a higher risk factor than other VCTs.
