Deptford joins Smith & Williamson on UK funds

Smith & Williamson Investment Management has recruited former New Star fund manager Charles Deptford.

He is to take on the management of S&W’s UK equity growth and UK special situations trusts and will also assist Rupert Fleming on the UK long/short enterprise offshore fund.

Deptford managed the New Star UK equity income fund, and was one of a number of managers who did not join Henderson after the merger in April. He has also worked for Barings and Rothschild Asset Management, where he was head of UK equities.

He says: “S&W has a boutique approach to fund management which is refreshing and I am also looking forward to supporting Rupert Fleming on the S&W UK long/short capability.”

S&W investment management director of marketing and sales Nick Hodgson says: “Deptford is well known in the retail fund industry and has a wide following among intermediaries which will help us to raise the profile of S&W.”
