Death of UBS retail sales chief Simon Goodge

The investment industry has paid tribute to Simon Goodge, the head of retail sales at UBS Asset Management, who has died in a road accident.

Goodge, who was killed while riding his motorcyle to work on July 5, has been praised by colleagues for his optimism, commitment and enthusiasm for his job, qualities they say made him a tremendous person to work alongside.

In a joint statement, they say: “He created a great sense of loyalty and affection in those around him and as a motivator he was second to none. We will all miss him very much.”

Goodge was a widely-known and well-liked figure across the industry. He joined UBS earlier this year from Gartmore, where he spent 11 years, latterly as head of intermediary and asset management sales.

Gartmore says he will be remembered most for his popularity and the respect he commanded throughout the industry. A spokeswoman says: “Simon worked for Gartmore for many years and was well-respected by fund managers and colleagues alike. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family. He will be dearly missed.”

Goodge, who was 39, leaves a son, Matthew, and a fiancée, Nicola. His funeral took place on July 15. A memorial service is to be arranged in the City.
