Cummings to head trade body for mortgage advisers

Former Sun Bank marketing director Chris Cummings has been appointed director of the new trade association for mortgage advisers.

Cummings, 35, will be responsible for setting up and running the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries, which launched this week with the aim of becoming the voice of mortgage advisers with the Government and regulators. He is the first member of staff to be appointed.

The AMI is a division of Aifa. Cummings will report to Aifa director general Paul Smee, who is a member of the AMI&#39s divisional board, which in turn will report to the Aifa council.

Cummings spent five years as marketing director at Sun Bank, leaving late last year following its acquisition by Portman Building Society. He was previously a marketing consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers and a marketing manager at PPP Healthcare.

He takes up the new post in mid-May.

Smee says: “We are pleased to have been able to secure the appointment of someone of the calibre of Chris. He has extensive experience of the mortgage market and of working with trade bodies as a practitioner. I look forward to working with him.”

Cummings says: “I am delighted. Over the past 12 months, it has become increasingly apparent that mortgage intermediaries need a body to speak for them so this is the ideal time for the AMI to establish itself.”
