CSAM&#39s Shant to head Euro team

Credit Suisse Asset Management head of continental European equities Rajesh Shant has been recruited to head Mellon Newton&#39s European desk.

Shant, who manages CSAM&#39s European fund, was only promoted to the head of continental European equities in October but will join Mellon Newton in March.

In his new position, he will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating Mellon Newton&#39s European equities team.

Shant will take over from Kieran Gallagher, who was recruited by LeggMason Investors last October. Gallagher will take up his post as LMI&#39s new chief investment officer and head of Europe in March.

CSAM says it has started its search for a new head of continental European equities and is confident that its European desk will remain strong.

Managing director Ian Chimes says: “We are very disappointed to see Raj go but we have got a lot of strength and depth in European equities and we will be announcing our plans for a replacement shortly.”

Mellon Newton chief inv-estment officer Jeff Munroe says: “We are extremely pleased that Rajesh is joining our team.

“He has valuable experience in managing European equities at a senior level and has proven investment performance.”
