CSAM fills UK equity income void with Ashby

Credit Suisse has hired Sarasin Chiswell’s Graham Ashby to take on the group’s £1.25bn equity income fund range.

Ashby will become a managing director and head of UK retail equities, with former DWS colleague Michael Crawford taking on the role of director and portfolio manager reporting to Ashby. Marcus Chandler is also joining Credit Suisse as a vice president and portfolio manager from Sarasin where he was an analyst.

Phil True and Crispin Finn had been running the income range for the past 10 months after the departure of Errol Francis to Schroders.

Ashby will continue to manage the Sarasin UK equity income fund while at CSAM.

AWD Chase De Vere head of investment research Justine Fearns says: “Credit Suisse is beginning to recover and with a couple of decent appointments recently, we hope that they can make them stick.  Graham Ashby is certainly a name known in the industry and has a good track record.  Whether he will be enough to attract a lot of money back into funds in such a competitive sector will be down to the numbers.  We will be keeping an eye on his progress.
