Credit Suisse maps out middle way for income

Credit Suisse Asset Management is to launch a new range of fixed-income products into the UK next year.

It is drawing up plans for the launch of three funds across Europe, with the first two funds due to be released by the end of the year.

The emerging Europe and US high-yield bond funds are already available in Switzerl and and will be rolled out across the rest of continental Europe next month. A Euro convertible bond fund will be launched across Europe early next year but will initially be unavailable in the UK.

The products will aim to offer income investors a middle way between equities and bonds following volatile conditions on European equity and bond markets.

Recent research by CSAM revealed around 60 per cent of Euro pean bond products have generated no real income over the past five years.

The funds will be managed using a new risk analysis approach which relies more on bottom-up research than past performance.

CSAM fixed-income managing director Emanuele Ravano says: “The rules for the investment game are chan ging as the equity markets become more volatile and fixed-income performance becomes increasingly unreliable.”
