Coventry Building Society appoints former minister

Coventry Building Society is appointing former Conservative cabinet minister Gillian Shephard to its board of directors.

Shephard is the MP for South West Norfolk and between 1992 and 1997 she served in various cabinet positions.

She served as Secretary of State for Employment 1992-93, minister for agriculture fisheries and food 1993-94, Secretary of State for Education 1994-95 and Secretary of State for Education and Employment between 1995 and 1997.

Shephard says: &#34I am delighted to be joining the board of Coventry Building Society which is one of the most successful in the country. It has demonstrated that building societies can deliver real competitive advantages to members.&#34

Coventry chairman Sir Geoffrey Whalen says: &#34As a former cabinet minister she has a wealth of experience and expertise to bring to the society&#39s affairs at this particularly important stage in our development.&#34
