Court tells Woolwich to pay £2,000 in damages to IFA

A court has awarded an IFA over £2,000 in damages in a dispute with Woolwich.

Strategic Financial Solutions joint managing director Henri Berest claimed Woolwich sent plans for a newbuild property to a borrower’s old address and failed to make copies of the plans, which led to subsequent service issues.

Barnet county court ordered Woolwich to pay Berest £2,135 in compensation by Barnet County Court but Woolwich says it will fight the judgment because it claims it never received a court summons so could not mount a defence.

The compensation awarded is for time spent by Berest chasing Woolwich.

Despite these issues, Woolwich has come in for praise recently for improving its service over the past few months.

Berest says: “A court has upheld my complaint which says it all. There is no reason why Woolwich should not have the documents as they are sent by the court.”

Woolwich spokeswoman Emma Austin says: “We have not received any court documents relating to this claim and therefore we are making an application to set aside the judgment.”

Abolish loopy indemnity

What an interesting article from Peter Hargreaves about killer commission. I do not agree with him that IFAs will be dead in a few years. People have been saying that for many years and it never happens. I may well be dead but from a physical, not a business, point of view. I do not […]
