The Consumers' Association has announced the appointment of Peter Vicary-Smith as its new chief executive. Vicary-Smith has been commercial director at Cancer Research UK since 2002 and was previously director of fundraising and communications at Imperial Cancer Research Fund from 1996. He will join the CA at the end of August.
The appointment comes after the death in January of Sheila McKechnie who led Consumers' Association for nine years.
Vicary-Smith says: “For 47 years Consumers' Association has put people at the heart of everything it does, through providing first rate independent information and campaigning with and for consumers. I will continue that tradition and will make sure that Consumers' Association continues to champion the issues that really matter to consumers.
“My vision is for Which? not just to be a household name but also at the heart of every household. Which? should be more relevant to people today than ever before with people facing more complex choices and decisions everyday, whether it's about their pensions, their health care or the food they eat. My job will be to make sure that this vision is a reality – growing the organisation's membership base and increasing its influence with industry and government.”
