Consumers turn to remote banking

The number of consumers using internet and telephone banking has risen to 13.5 million, according to BACS, the UK&#39s automated clearing house.

The research shows 10 million consumers checked balances over the telephone and 3.5 million logged onto their accounts via the internet.

BACS sector marketing manager Anthony Sherick says: “We are delighted with the speed that people are embracing telephone and internet banking, but many people are still only using the facility to check balances and not taking the opportunity of making payments this way.”
