Consumers to get share prices through their mobiles

TD Waterhouse the online stockbroker is to be the first to give UK investors share prices, index data and news via WAP mobile phones.

Full WAP (wireless application protocol) trading will be rolled out within two months, with trading fees the same as over the internet.

Analysts who welcome the decision stress that it is more important to be best than first with new generation services.

Only a few thousand WAP phones are currently in use in the UK but this is set to change fast when they are marketed to the public.
