Consumer guide to the &#39100 key money questions&#39

First State Investments is teaming up with monthly finance magazine Moneywise to produce 100 Key Money Questions, an educational guide to personal finance.

The guide aims to help members of the public who want to keep their finances in check and to plan for the future.

It focuses on basic questions in key areas – personal finance, investment and financial advice, banking and borrowing, insurance, tax-saving strategies, retirement planning and consumer and legal issues.

The guide explains everything the consumer needs to know – from economic terms such as bull and bear markets to the difference between active and passive funds.

It also describes how mini and maxi Isas work and has tips on how to avoid common mistakes. The guide even offers advice on hire-purchase agreements and suggests steering clear of store cards.

There is also information about useful websites for readers interested in finding out more about issues such as the euro or specific organisations such as consumer groups.

First State Investments director UK retail sales Richard Jones says: “The reputation of financial services has suffered due to concerns over misselling and corporate accounting scandals. It is up to the industry as a whole, including fund managers, to take responsibility for providing clear and honest information to consumers.”
