Co-op to enter mortgage market

The Co-operative Bank is set to offer mortgages from next year according to the Financial Times.


The Co-op spelt out its intentions after reporting a 25 per cent in interim pre-tax profits to £50.1m yesterday.


The bank also reported a 13 per cent rise in new retail balances to £3.45bn in the seven months to July 24.


Co-op chief executive Mervyn Pedelty says: &#34We certaintly believe we can build a substantial mortgage book of good quality over the next few years.&#34
