Close Brothers shuts Chartwell Direct call centre in Bristol

Close Brothers Asset Management has closed the Chartwell Direct call centre operation in Bristol following a review of the business.

The firm has decided to move Chartwell Direct’s customer service function to its existing office in Northwich.

A Close Brothers spokesman refuses to confirm whether any jobs are at risk.

He says: “We can confirm all telephone enquiries by Chartwell self-directed clients are now being handled by our Northwich call centre.

“This move has no impact on Chartwell’s advised clients who will continue to be served out of our Bristol office.”

Chartwell Direct is the execution-only service launched by Chartwell Group in 1995. Chartwell Group was acquired by Close Brothers Asset Management for £17m in September 2010.

AWD Chase de Vere head of communications Patrick Connolly was previously a director at Chartwell and ran Chartwell Direct between 1995 and 2003.

He says: “Chartwell Direct is a service orientated business, so the biggest risk here is customer service levels falling as a result.”
