Citizens’ band of volunteers

I am writing in response to the call by John Ellis of the Personal Finance Society (Money Marketing, February 3,) for positive statements on how advisers help the community and clients of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

He was questioning press reports that the adviser sector has not been supporting the PFS/CAB initiative and other volunteering.

I hope he is not right. I, for one, do a little. I am a trustee of my local CAB and sit on its management committee. I only spend perhaps one evening every two months in meetings plus maybe two or three other days a year helping to raise community awareness of the bureau and much needed funds. Unfortunately, my own bureau was not picked as part of the PFS/CAB pilot study.

If any adviser would like to help, even in a small way, the increasingly indebted citizens of their local area they should contact Citizens’ Advice on 08451 264 264 and their details will be passed to their local bureau.

I am sure that many many other advisers up and down the country do a great deal more than me in their communities.
