CIS beefs up SRI scrutiny

CIS is increasing its scrutiny of its socially responsible investments by forming an independent advisory committee to examine decisions made by its Responsible Shareholding Unit.

The committee will look at drug company pricing policies, peat extraction, rail safety and countries&#39 human rights records. The committee contains representatives from the world of business, academia, politics, the media and voluntary organisations.

CIS responsible shareholding unit head Robert Taylor says: “IF CIS and its policyholders are to achieve the maximum benefit from SRI it is important that we are accountable and transparent about the decisions we make.”
