Cirencester Friendly chief executive elected president of AFS

Cirencester Friendly chief executive Paul Hudson has been elected president of the Association of Friendly Societies.

Hudson, former vice president of the AFS, will chair the board which is responsible for running conferences, seminars, and working parties on behalf of the association’s members.

The news comes after AFS members voted in favour of a resolution to merge with the Association of Mutual Insurers to create a new trade body.
Hudson will hold his position as president of the AFS until January 2010 before joining the board of the newly formed joint mutual association, which is yet to be named.

He says: “The financial services industry as a whole is facing challenges and widespread change, and the friendly society sector is no exception. I am therefore honoured to be elected president of the Association of Friendly Societies at such a crucial time.
