Charles Stanley hires ex-Quilter director Porteous

Wealth manager Charles Stanley has hired ex-Quilter director John Porteous as group head of distribution.

It is a newly created role at the company and will see Porteous (pictured) take on responsibility for developing overall distribution strategy for services and products and inputting into overall proposition development.

Porteous will join the Charles Stanley’s executive committee and will report directly to chief executive Paul Abberley.

Porteous left the position of Quilter retail customer solutions director after being at the business for just over a year.

In his 25 years in financial services Porteous, a chartered financial planner, has had senior roles at firms including Tilney, Towry and Baker Tilly Financial Management.

Porteous says:

“Charles Stanley is on a journey of transformation and I am delighted to have this opportunity to help accelerate the next phase of growth for the firm.

“I’m looking forward to helping it reach new clients and serve its existing ones more comprehensively in a marketplace where value for money is becoming the key metric.”

Abberley comments:

“John is a crucial hire for our business and he will help us broaden and deepen our client base and step up our distribution momentum in order to meet our strategic objectives.  He has an innate understanding of our multi-channel, multi-service business and building high performance sales teams, as well as a long track record in meeting the needs of clients in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

“I am excited to be working with John and believe he can make a huge contribution to building this business.
