CGNU chief Scott will chair the ABI

CGNU group chief executive Bob Scott is to be the next chairman of the ABI, replacing Zurich Financial Services chief executive Sandy Leitch.

Leitch is standing down after completing his two-year term.

Scott was made group chief executive of CGNU after the merger of Norwich Union and CGU. He became CGU group chief executive after the merger of General Accident and Commercial Union in June 1998.

Leitch&#39s main legacy will be his involvement with the Savings and Long Term Risk Initiative, aimed at boosting standards in the insurance industry.

Scottish Widows life insurance council chairman Mike Ross and Axa UK general insurance council chairman Mark Wood continue as deputy chairmen.

Scott says: “The ABI has a crucial role to play in helping to ensure the UK insurance industry continues to grow and thrive. As ABI chairman, I look forward to playing a key role in tackling the challenges and opportunities the industry faces.”

Leitch says: “It has been a privilege to lead the industry. I think what we do is fundamentally good for our customers. At the same time, we have to be obsessively non-complacent about getting better.”
