‘Cash for children should be put into emerging markets’

Jupiter Unit Trust Managers chief investment officer Edward Bonham Carter says he bel-ieves investors should be putt-ing cash for their children into emerging markets.

Bonham Carter, manager of the undervalued assets fund, says long-term growth can be had in countries such Brazil, China and India.

He says there will be a hippo market for investment in the coming year, where stocks will wallow, occasionally heading up or down or lurching into activity in one direction or the other.

Bonham Carter believes value in the market comes from stock selection and careful assessment of individual firms. The macro-economic climate will see limited rises in inflation and a steady low level of interest rates.

He says: “There is a side of the argument to put money away for your children in emer-ging markets. There is scope here but it involves a careful analysis of individual stocks and there still is the possibility for growth.”
