Cancer charity in attack on ABI

The ABI is failing to force private medical insurance providers to be transparent over cancer treatment, says charity CancerBacup.

The charity says the ABI is not doing enough to prevent PMI firms
misleading consumers. The ABI has published its statement of best
practice for PMI cover which has been designed as a code of best
practice.

The charity says its research in August revealed that consumers are
being misled over the nature and extent of cancer when buying PMI
policies but it says no substantive changes have as yet been made to
the code.

Spokeswoman Jill Morrell says: “Consumers are not clear about their
policies because the language used is too opaque.”

ABI head of health Richard Walsh says: “We hope to put a more
radical plan together after regulation.”
