Canada Life introduces one time underwriting process

Canada Life is introducing a one time underwriting process for group income protection in a bid to save time for advisers and their clients.

Group schemes with more than 20 people can now be underwritten only once, and if accepted, no further underwriting will be required regardless of increases in salary.

Following the Association of British Insurers guidance paper on non-disclosure, Canada Life is also producing a more comprehensive health declaration to improve disclosure.

The group hopes the form will speed up the decision making process by enabling underwriters to focus on the information provided by the individual rather than the medical professional.

Operations director Jon Ford says: “By introducing one time underwriting and our new health declaration, the medical underwriting process will be both quicker and simpler for intermediaries and clients alike. This approach also provides the assurance that once those over the free cover level have been underwritten they automatically covered for any increases in their salary.”
