CA attacks FSA with-profits reform proposals

The Consumers&#39 Association has criticised the FSA&#39s proposals for reforming the with-profits industry outlined in CP167, saying they do not represent any real progress for policyholders.

In its response to the CP, the CA expresses its concerns about the regressive steps included in the paper.

It calls on the FSA to take on board some of its proposals including ring-fencing with-profits funds within proprietary companies.

The CA&#39s response says: “Indeed we are concerned that these proposals are a regressive step in terms of corporate governance in that directors will have even more power to exploit policyholder vulnerability and consumer influence will be further weakened.”
