BSkyB channel could aid IFAs on CPD points

BSkyB&#39s planned financial services channel could allow advisers to earn their continuing professional development p
oints through TV by interactive viewing and testing.

Under Financial Channel proposals, advisers may be able to earn points by automatically logging their viewing, taking part in interactive panel discussions or by using their remote controls to select multiple-choice test questions.

The company is seeking talks with the FSA and the Chartered Insurance Institute to discuss how CPD, training and competence and best practice can be wor ked into its new project.

Sky IFA and e-commerce consultant and e-anable commercial director Mark Wilkins says: “All IFAs have to maintain CPD and the demands are likely to get heavier. But finding the time to attend often expensive seminars can prove a problem.

“Sky already has the technology which automatically generates a compliance trail for CPD by logging viewing. It also has the technology to allow IFAs to select yes/no answers online in multiplechoice tests.

“This provides a huge opportunity to train back-office staff and stay up to the minute with the latest products which can be reviewed by a panel live on air.”

CII vice-president and Sofa chairman Peter Williams says: “It is an exciting development and builds on what we have been working on in the past.

“We will be delighted to get involved in this and moving it forward to help train staff, including back-office employees.”

The new development will be headed by head of development Bruce Cuthbert and development manager David Walker.
