Broker severs BNP link

Welsh broker Financial Solutions Unlimited is no longer acting as the broker to British National Party financial services arm Albion Life after it emerged that two of the firm’s three partners were unaware of the tie-up.

Partners Brian Howcroft and Craig Francis initially denied any link with Albion until they saw a letter accompanying an Albion quote on FSU headed paper and signed by their colleague David Boulton.

Albion is unregulated and was acting as an introducer. Its life products are targeted at BNP members and the commission helps fund the far-right party.

But Albion says: “We are working to secure a replacement broker. Nothing will stop Albion conducting business to raise funds for the BNP. Our struggle is a matter of life and death for our people.”

Francis says: “After an investigation, we have established Boulton did have referrals from Albion but it was on a personal level and unknown to anybody else here. He has apologised for what he has called an error of judgement and the other partners have accepted this.”

The life contract offered was from Friends Provident. A spokesman says it does not have an association with any political party.
