British investors deluded at the adequacy of their company pensions says Cavendish

British investors are showing remarkable complacency over their company pension provision, according to research from Cavendish Asset management.

A new survey shows 42 per cent of investors believe their company pension will provide sufficient funds for retirement, while 31 per cent believe it will be inadequate.

Younger investors appear most complacent, despite the fact they are least likely to be covered by final salary schemes, with 52 per cent of those under 30 believing their company pension will be adequate.

Cavendish senior fund manager Paul Mumford says: “Many people are either completely ignorant of the current crisis in the pension system or just have a blind optimism that the Government or their employers will come through for them, despite every indication that the State an companies will provide less and less support.”
