Boxing promoter Barry Hughes in court over mortgage fraud charges

Boxing promoter Barry Hughes and his wife have appeared in court to face charges of mortgage fraud.

Hughes and his wife, Jacqueline, are alleged to have lied about income on mortgage applications totalling almost £1.5m, according to reports.

The pair denied the charges when they appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court for a procedural hearing on the case yesterday.

Sheriff Linda Ruxton granted an adjournment for further investigations and trial was set for October 3.

The couple are alleged to have falsely stated in an application that Jacqueline was earning £60,000 a year in August 2001.

They are also alleged to have done the same in November 2006 and of profiting from the sale of the two properties.
