Bowes top on national press quotes

Chase de Vere spokeswoman Anna Bowes is the most quoted pundit in the national press, according to the PressWatch financial analysis for May.

The monthly monitoring of financial national media coverage found Bowes was quoted almost twice as much as any other IFA last month.

The report says: “She continues to make personal financial advice a readable and entertaining subject.” The analysis identified Bowes&#39 take on stakeholder as a good investment for children as a key factor in generating her high profile.

PWFP says the continuing media debate on mortgage rates helped Charcol spokes-man Ray Boulger and London & Country Mortgages adviser David Hollingsworth take second and third places respectively.

Levels of coverage for Hargreaves Lansdown&#39s Mark Dampier, Bestinvest&#39s Jason Hollands and Torquil Clark&#39s Tom McPhail, fell compared with previous months.

On coverage achieved by companies, scrapping compulsory insurance tie-ins on their mortgage products hel-ped Halifax take top spot and Nationwide take third position.

HSBC was the second most mentioned company due to the “plentiful press in its joint venture with Merrill Lynch to develop a wealth management service”. At the other end of the table, national IFA Towry Law sank to second from bottom with Eurolife bottom.

PWFP says Towry suffered because of coverage of the size of its pension misselling bill.

The report says pension misselling “is an issue that spawns bad press but when it concerns a financial adviser, it is particularly discrediting”.

The issue of demutalisation and members&#39 windfalls helped Scottish Provident and Friends Provident achieve the most coverage in the life insurance sector.
