Barclays is to extend the opening hours of 84 per cent of its 1720 branches in a bid to increase the convenience and accessibility for its customers.
The move is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs nationwide within the next two years.
As part of the plans at least 50 of its main town and city centre branches will remain open for 12 hours a day from 8am to 8pm. While the remainder will open at all day Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
Barclays group chief executive Matt Barrett says: "The old reality of bankers hours doesnt cut it anymore. We are therefore delighted to offer our customers the opportunity to visit branches outside the usual times."
