Barclays confirms deal talks with BlackRock

Barclays is in talks with BlackRock over a deal for the sale of its iShares and Barclays Global Investors business.

In a stock market alert responding to press comment, Barclays said it has had discussions with a number of parties including BlackRock but these are not yet concluded and there were significant open issues which could affect the nature and terms of any transaction.

It intends to update the market on the conclusion of the ‘go-shop’ process agreed with CVC regarding iShares no later than June 19.

It said: “There is no certainty that these discussions will result in Barclays concluding a different transaction than that announced on April 9 with CVC regarding iShares.”

Either way, the job of the adviser is not enviable.
