Barclays appoints new finance director

Barclays has this week appointed John Varley, former retail financial services chief executive at the bank, as finance director.



He is replacing David Allvey who leaves with a £1.6m pay-off after a year with the group as it completes the merger with Woolwich.



Barclays also confirmed the appointment of Woolwich&#39s John Stewart on its board as deputy chief executive where his role will be to run the retail services of Barcays and Woolwich.
