Banks hold FTSE above 4,000

The FTSE 100 opened higher this morning at 4,060, up from Thursday’s close of 4,053.

At 9.43am, the index was up 0.07 per cent to 4,056 helped by strength from banks which pushed ahead in early trades.

By 1.07pm, it had extended gains and was up 1.4 per cent to 4,111.

Barclays was up 11 per cent to 235.75p, Lloyds Banking Group was up 22 per cent to 109.50p and Royal Bank of Scotland had gained 11.9 per cent to 32p.
