Axa UK appoints new chairman

Axa UK has appointed Ian Brimecome as chairman to replace Anthony Hamilton, who is retiring.

Brimecome has been a non-executive director of Axa UK since March 2007 and took up his new role last week.

Brimecome also serves as chairman of the Equitable Life Assurance Society, Lloyds of London insurance underwriters Kiln Group and American Insurance company Delphi Financial Group.

Hamilton has been with the Axa group since 1993 in a number of non-executive roles and has been chairman of Axa UK since September 2000.

Hamilton says: “I am delighted to be succeeded by Ian Brimecome who has an unsurpassed knowledge and experience of the insurance industry here and worldwide. He brings a level of business acumen and judgement that I am certain will prove him to be an exceptional chairman in the coming years.”

Axa UK group chief executive Paul Evans says: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Anthony Hamilton for his excellent chairmanship of the AXA UK board over the last 13 years, during which time he has overseen the substantial and successful repositioning of UK operations.”

Consilium Financial Planning managing director Kevin Morgan says: “It is a wonderful position to be in for Ian Brimecome as chairman and it is a role which I am sure comes with lots of perks. I just hope he realises the privileged position he is in and takes the job seriously.”
