Axa Sun Life spreads its bets across UK

Axa Sun Life’s UK opportunities open-ended investment trust (Oeic) is aimed at investors who are seeking to expand their portfolios by investing in a fund that offers higher returns as well as higher risk. UK opportunities can also be used as a core fund for its Isa version.

The Oeic will invest in a range of 40 companies across the UK, covering a wide variety of industries. The companies, which will initially include Vodaphone, Glaxo Smithkline, Lloyds TSB and Tesco, will be chosen by an eight-strong fund team, which will choose companies based on their growth potential. Although this is a high-risk fund, the fact that it is not tied to one investment area will spread that risk over a wider area.

At the helm of UK opportunities is Stuart Fowler, the head of UK equities at Dresdner RCM before he moved over to Axa Sun Life in November 2000.

According to Standard & Poor’s the Axa Sun Life UK growth fund is ranked 67 out of 233 funds, based on £1,000 invested on a bid-to-bid basis with net income reinvested over a three-year period.
